Skiing Whilst Spain may not conjure up an image of impressive snow covered mountain peaks the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are just a 1hr 40 min drive from Orgiva. It has practically guaranteed sunshine and some of the best spring snow conditions in Europe. As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long season by traditionally opening in November and running to the first week of May. The Alpine Skiing Championships took place here in 1994. Whilst staying at Mimosa it is possible to get to the ski slopes early in the morning and sunbathe beside the pool in the afternoon. Another alternative is to stay overnight at one of the cheap hostals in the resort.
